School of music in Brunico
The new building annex is a compact, half buried construction that surrounds the garden. The garden works as a hinge between the two buildings, old and new. The new classrooms and corridors are illuminated through courtyards to ensure the silence and seclusion necessary for the study.
The building?s green roof becomes a garden dislocation from which only emerges a small white volume in dialogue with the Ragen House. This way, the impact of the new building on the current setting is substantially reduced.
A porch open to the garden invites you in. It runs along the building to connect the church's front and the cemetery entrance. This visual and physical connection integrates the new building with the existing urban traces and provides with magnificent views the public space.
The project materializes as an abstract volume in white lattice-work the purity and simplicity of which enhances the existing Ragen House and its surroundings.
